For fans of cozy science fiction, add Moss’d in Space to your TBR! I cannot wait for the sequel, it’s easily one of my favorite SF books this year! Keep reading this book review of Moss’d in Space for my full thoughts.
Summary
Torian Razner finally bought a starship, and contrary to Amelia’s assessment, it was not “a meteoric sign of stupidity.” Sure, the alien starship may have been abandoned for a century, and it may be covered in moss now… but it’s Torian’s ticket to freedom, regardless of what her ex… ah, captain… said.
Except Torian’s first flight reveals a surprise passenger: the moss is actually an organic computer with a snarky attitude and serious abandonment issues. The target of its loathing? The immortal alien who built it (and then parked the starship, with Moss inside, and forgot about it). The same alien who just found Torian and accused her of “stealing” the ship.
It’s entirely possible that Amelia was right about this meteoric stupidity.
Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
Moss’d in Space is my latest cozy SF obsession! I loved this mixture of sentient starship and pilot on a quest to save her sister. Watching this bond form between them is tender as we witness Moss striking this balance between human and organic computer. Through Moss, we are introduced to these themes of forgiveness, abandonment, and fear. I loved watching Moss open up as a character and work through these themes with Torian. And the romance seeds we get in Moss’d in Space are an element I cannot wait to see in book two! I adored this inventive, unique, and fascinating science fiction world. (Also the audiobook has one of my favorite narrators ever so of course I adored it and it’s dual narrator!!)

The crew dynamics and found family elements here are delightful. And it has this signature wit and humor that I associate with all of Thorne’s books. Moss’d in Space is an easy favorite! I am always looking for new recommendations for my cozy SF list. Is it weird that my favorite character ended up being Moss?
