Review: Kiss Me Maybe by Gabriella Gamez

We love to see more ace representation in romance books! This was my main reason for picking up Kiss Me Maybe and I loved it! This character driven romance is perfect for summer. Keep reading this book review of Kiss Me Maybe for my full thoughts.

Summary

Librarian Angela Gutierrez has never been kissed. But after posting a video about her late bloomer status and ace identity, she’s finally ready to get some firsts out of the way. Using her new influencer status to come up with a scavenger hunt idea in which the winner earns her first kiss, Angela realizes she may need some help to pull off the event. Enter Krystal Ramirez, hot bartender and Angela’s unrequited crush of five years. Despite vowing that romantic love isn’t for her, Krystal seems awfully determined to help Angela pull off the scavenger hunt and find true love.

There’s just one the connection between Angela and Krystal is getting stronger and stronger the more they hang out, until Angela isn’t sure she wants to go through with the scavenger hunt after all. But Krystal is convinced that she isn’t capable of love and before long, Angela realizes she’s falling head over heels for a woman who may never love her back.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Kiss Me Maybe is my latest favorite romance. I loved the character growth and the questioning. It’s about love, but also realizing that sometimes people will never be the person we want them to be. That they will not change and that to love ourselves, they don’t need a place in our lives. It’s also about self discovery and acceptance. For those who want the queer feels and questioning, the uncertainty and complexities, Kiss Me Maybe is for you! I was always looking forward to listening and following Angela’s journey like a Tiktok follower!

We can compare ourselves to those around us. We get stuck and I think this experience is even more so true in a society ruled by allosexuality. The way it’s built into the fabric of interactions, ‘experiences’, and society. Kiss Me Maybe struck a chord within me. Not only does Angela have to question her own belief, mistakes, and interactions, but she also has to navigate the internet. The internet can have an idea of who we are which doesn’t leave for mistakes, nuance, or apologies. Kiss Me Maybe has fantastic narration from Ruby Corazon who expertly voices the doubts of Angela.

Kiss Me Maybe is about discovery, firsts, and the strength of our voice. I loved the romantic tension, supportive parents, and the librarian references! Find Kiss Me Maybe on Goodreads, Storygraph, Amazon, Bookshop. org, Blackwells, & Libro. fm.
