Review: The Matchmaker by Aisha Saeed

Have you ever wanted to read a blend of mystery and romance? Look no further than The Matchmaker. While I think this leans a bit more towards mystery, I had such a fun time reading! Keep reading this book review of The Matchmaker for my full thoughts.

Summary

Nura Khan is a third-generation matchmaker in Atlanta and business has never been better. Her exclusive clientele benefits from her impeccable track record. And while a single thirty-one-year-old matchmaker would normally raise some perfectly threaded eyebrows in the community, Nura’s childhood best friend Azar is willing to double as her pretend fiancé at her clients’ weddings—as long as Nura is able to hide that her feelings for him might not be so pretend.

But Nura quickly learns that all that glitters isn’t gold. While it’s not uncommon to get the occasional hate mail from rejected prospective clients, after a couple’s carefully constructed wedding implodes, Nura is blindsided by a cascading chain of increasingly terrifying events and realizes someone is taking things too far. With Azar by her side, Nura embarks on a dangerous cat-and-mouse game that threatens not only her safety but everything she’s worked so hard to build.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

I loved the premise of a matchmaker, the danger of safety, meets family secrets. You’d be shocked – or not – at the entitlement of people especially in matchmaking! My favorite underdog element of The Matchmaker had to be the family aspect. We can have family who so thoroughly don’t understand us, don’t see the love we have for our job and clients. While there’s very much the mystery and action element – hello think about kidnapping and more! – it’s still a book with explorations about family and how we support and can come to understand each other.

With an Emma vibe to the romance – think childhood crushes and we can’t because we’re friends vibes – The Matchmaker is mainly a mystery story. It has mounting danger where we aren’t sure if it’s too many coincidences, paranoia, or something bigger. The Matchmaker is multi-faceted and I was always looking forward to reading it at the end of the day. Just definitely go into this one expecting primarily mystery because I was definitely confused until I re-oriented! The end also GOT ME! With Saeed’s adult debut, this is so fantastic! What is your favorite mystery debut from an author who wrote other age groups first?
