But when the King is unexpectedly murdered, she’s forced to recruit the help of Marie d’Odette, the real princess, and the two begin to unravel a web of lies and deceit that leaves Odile uncertain of who to trust.
Soon though Odile must decide – her mission or the girl she’s falling for?
Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
All our enemies started off friends. A Treachery of Swans begins with this idea that it would be easier in someone else’s skin. We can think we know what they’re going through, what their life is – because it isn’t ours – but we couldn’t be more wrong. A Treachery of Swans has a slower start, but once it takes off it glides on the currents of the foundation it built. With an unlikely alliance at its core, A Treachery of Swans is about forgiveness and the things we have to become to survive. It’s about finding someone who sees the ways we’ve had to lessen ourselves, and gives us a chance to unfurl.

I loved how second chances and forgiveness were explored in A Treachery of Swans. There’s the swoons, the enchanting setting, and the betrayals. We can be lulled into false loves of conditions and obedience that when we think we see betrayal everywhere we look. And after it all, a kind word and caress threatens us going back. A Treachery of Swans feels almost Gothic mixed with soul searching about everything we would do for approval in the wrong places and the ways we can still be forgiven.
