Today’s Top Ten Tuesday post, I know I haven’t posted in a while for this prompt, is focused on Authors I Discovered and Read in 2017. And wow, there are a lot. Let’s start chronologically okay?
- Tara Sim. I devoured Timekeeper in 2017, even though you didn’t see the review until yesterday. AND I really loved Chainbreaker even more! See my review for that today! *Spoiler, IT’s EVEN BETTER THAN THE FIRST*
- Marie Lu. I ADORED Warcross and just read Batman.
- Katherine Locke (and The Girl with the Red Balloon). She has not only been a phenomenal author to read, but also such a great source of recomdations and Instagram pictures.
- Ashley Postron (and Queens of Geek). A rec from Katherine Locke and one of my newest favorite contemporary authors.
- Fonda Lee and the amazingly lush Jade City.
- Traci Chee and The Reader and The Speaker. What phenomenal books!
- Elise Kova and her entire Loom series: The Alchemists of Loom and Dragons of Nova. They are so fantastic and fantasy and steam punk joys.
- Celeste Ng and her challenging book, Everything I Never Told You and her transformative book Little Fires Everywhere
- Leigh Bardugo’s PHENOMENAL Six of Crows series (including Crooked Kingdom).
- Anna Marie McLemore and everything she’s ever written: The Weight of Feathers, When the Moon Was Ours and Wild Beauty
There are so many other authors that have touched my life since then that I need to shout out briefly. 2017 was the best year for finding newer releases and also favorite authors. The list includes: Akemi Dawn Bowman, Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant, N.K. Jemisin, Pintip Dunn, Hillary Monahan, Adam Silvera, Emily Skrutskie, Melissa Bashardoust, Axie Oh, Cindy Pon, Mackenzi Lee, Julie C Dao, Heidi Heilig, Kat Howard, Tochi Onyebuchi, and Lydia Kang. Every one of them made my year better.

Nice list! I loved Warcross, and it was my first Marie Lu book. Also I’d like to try Dao and I’m really curious about Jade City!

All great books! So excited to see what you think
I love Leigh Bardugo. So happy you picked her up!! I need to try Marie Lu. I have the Legend series by her but haven’t picked it up yet. Great list!!!
YES I’m so on the Bardugo train!
I’ve read a couple Marie Lu books but not WARCROSS. I’ve read both of Ng’s books, but I didn’t love either of them. I’m definitely in the minority, though! I’m glad you found these authors and more to love this year.
Happy TTT!
Ah did you like the other Lu books? 🙂
READ THE YOUNG ELITES! I’ve read all of Marie Lu’s books except the graphic novels of Legend and I have to say that The Young Elites is really good. I also really enjoyed Warcross but I definitely stand by The Young Elites. Can you believe I still haven’t read a Leigh Bardugo book? I own three of them and I really should get to them this year.
YES everyone has been telling me to read the young elites because I’m really in a n anti-heroine mood recently.
That sounds like a great 2018 goal 😉
I’ve yet to read any of the authors you shared in your TTT post this week… Time to explore some more new to me authors!!

I CANNOT WAIT! They’re so good :DDD
Honestly, I didn’t really have any new favourites this year but I read Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and really enjoyed it but was somewhat conflicted with the romance story :/
This year, I would like to read Akemi Dawn Bowman’s books. Or book!
Yes! I am looking forward to her next one! And I have Americanah on the shelf but I haven’t gotten to it yet….
I’ve really got to read a book by Leigh Bardugo. I’ve met her, but never read her books yet. Great list!
