Review: The Romance Revival by Christina Lauren

This is my first Christina Lauren book and I am not disappointed. The Romance Revival was made for me. I love the slightly speculative twist to it! Keep reading this book review of The Romance Revival for my full thoughts.

Summary

Three years ago, Emery Finch did something completely out of character: She got married. To Luca—the impossibly charming landscaper she met on one blistering night in Vegas who made her laugh, made her dance, made her feel.

But now, Emery is consumed by her top-secret job, missing dinners, forgetting anniversaries, and promising herself Luca will understand once her cutting-edge research comes to light. Until the unthinkable happens: A tragic accident takes Luca from her.

Desperate not to lose him, Emery breaks every rule to bring him back. And Luca would probably thank her for it, if only he could remember her. Their first kiss, their Sunny Sundays at the beach, the life they built together…all of it is gone.

It may be a miracle of science, but for Emery it’s her one shot at a second chance. And this time, she won’t waste it—because true love is always worth reviving.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Second chance romance plus a we-need-to-save-the-marriage is my kryptonite. I’m sorry, but I adore reading second chance marriage or estrange spouse stories. There’s something so real about recognizing our complacency, where we have grown as people, and how we have grown apart. It’s so real to wonder if we can fall in love as these people, with these mistakes, these traumas, and these experiences behind us. And The Romance Revival delivers in the best way. The Romance Revival felt like a lightning strike of my favorite elements this trope combined with a speculative revival plotline? Hook and sinker.

Even more so, The Romance Revival is dual POV which is brilliant. It so beautifully captures these feelings of expectations. Of knowing a previous version and having to interpolate this new person all while being able to read their perspective as well. It’s a testament to all the life that happens when we aren’t watching. The vacations, experiences, and things we always push off. The Romance Revival asks us what makes a life, a relationship? How do we see a person versus how they see themselves? While the ending felt a bit rushed considering the build up – which I did enjoy! – I was totally absorbed by this one.
