October Wrap up

I am still in denial that October is done. Anyone with me? Is it just me or do I feel like this year has been the longest year ever and gone by in a flash? Maybe that’s what staying in your house all the time does to you. Keep reading to find out how many books I finished!

Books Read?

I don’t know how it happened, but I read 35 books in October. That’s more than one a day. And I really have no idea how it happened. I know I went through a few audiobooks this month, but I think the thing that pushed me over were the buddy reads! This month was the first month I’ve been an audiobook reviewer. It’s one of the great joys because I listen to audiobooks daily and being able to review some will help me listen to some of my most anticipated reads.

This month I listened to Hush, Skyhunter (Macmillan Audio), Stalking Jack the Ripper, The Night Tiger, and almost finished Black Sun (Libro.fm)! And I also buddy read: We Could Be Heroes with Mike, Lightbringer with Emma, A Line in the Dark with Vicky, Such a Fun Age with my book club, Beyond the Ruby Veil with Kate, A Deadly Education with Fadwa, Kate, and Hannah.

If you think about that, it’s six books buddy read alone and four audiobooks, that’s a total of 10! Think about that!

For the monthly break down, I read about 46% BIPOC authored or MC books and 40% queer reads. While I’m glad I read over a third queer reads, my goal is always 50% BIPOC reads. I don’t think this month will hurt my overall yearly statistic badly, but it is disappointing to me. My favorite BIPOC book was Rebel Sisters. I love the War Girls duology and this sequel was sheer perfection. And my favorite queer read has to be Beyond the Ruby Veil.

My favorite read HAS to be The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling. It’s going to be a book I recommend to everyone for its portrayal of mental health, racism and family. Seriously, go read it. In total, I also only gave eight books five stars. So definitely fewer than in past months.

If you’re also wondering how many books I’ve read in 2020, the final count, as of now, 294.
