Monthly Minutes: January

This is the first of the 2018 Wrap Ups! I’m not sure if I did all 12 for last year, actually I’m sure I probably forgot some. But here’s to new goals and resolutions right? If you’re looking for a more reflective monthly wrap up, that’ll be coming to you next week. But this is just straight books – hooray!

Favorite Book of the Month

My favorite book of the month is always tricky. Bear in mind that the images below are in reverse chronological order. So the very last day of this month I finished up Blood of a Thousand Stars. I know I haven’t been able to shut up about Reign of the Fallen and in my private circle of friends I haven’t been able to shut up about Furyborn. But this month I just cannot pick a favorite. So here’s my top 5 of January 2018 (that’s perfectly reasonable right?!)

  • Let’s Talk About Love
  • Furyborn
  • Reign of the Fallen
  • Blood of a Thousand Stars
  • Hullmetal Girls

Am I super happy that 4/5 feature queer characters? HECK YES. Am I super happy that my faves were written by women? YES.

Reading Progress

My reading goal for 2018 is 200 Books. So that means I have to be reading about 16 books a month, which sure sounds like a huge amount – especially while I start a full time job. So how did I do this month?

I ended up reading 24 books which is way more than I ever thought I would. I think this is a combination of the fact that I’ve been commuting a lot on the train, and until my new job starts, I’ve been trying to read a book a day – with mixed success.

I used to outline which ones were arcs for you, but these were all mostly arcs. The only notable mentions (in terms of not arcs) were my two audiobooks of The Leavers and Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. I have been listening to these non stop when I’ve been doing chores, or walking around the city. So I was finally able to finish up The Leavers and breezed through Simon. I even just lay on my floor and listened to Simon. It was that good.
