March Wrap Up

March has been…..a month, for us all. In no way did I ever think March would be the hardest month of the year, so far. But it was and I was hit with the biggest reading slump I think I’ve ever had. Do you all feel it too? It’s more a lack of ability to focus, knowing something always in the back of your mind. The constant simmering anxiety, uncertainty, and fear.

But what did I read?

In the beginning of the month, I began to make headway on my library pile, before things promptly went sideways. I think you all can guess what happened, but to spell it out: the global pandemic. I had a week where I didn’t read at all and another where I barely read. It was hard for me as a person, a reader, and a book blogger who still had a schedule and commitments.

I got pretty behind in my schedule and commitments and the whole pandemic threw a huge wrench in my plans to go home. So that added a whole new level to my emotional state which is barely hanging on some days. That being said, I still managed to read some really great books! My favorite novella has to be Empress of Salt and Fortune which was amazing – I’d reread that now!

And I was able to read one of my favorite upcoming reads, Where Dreams Descend – seriously go preorder it from your local indie today! It’s lush and atmospheric and you will want book two immediately. I know I do. I was also able to read some amazing books which pulled me out of my reading inability to focus. I want to shout them out here.

I’ve been searching more and more for contemporaries and romcoms recently. This month’s wrap up is different that all the others I’ve written. But I think this month is different from all the other months as well. I know normally I feature charts and what not, but I’m already running on empty folks. I promise I will do my best to recharge by the end of April and bring you new charts! Yes, I know I’ve been promising another chart and I want to bring you author demographics and diversity within the books I read I’m just still trying to figure out how.

How are you all? How have you been coping?

  1. So sorry for your slump in March! I had one too and I completely get the feeling. I’m so glad you liked Empress of Salt and Fortune because it’s been an anticipated read of mine! I’m also reading The Falling of Love Montage in June and I’m so hyped for it. I got Her Royal Highness from the library once but wasn’t able to read it before its due date, but I’ve read a couple of pages of it and liked it – so now that you mention it, it’ll be on my radar more! I hope your April is going well, Lili

  2. I’m sorry to hear you had a rough month. You’ve hit the nail on the head with the observation “this month is different from all the other months as well.” I hope you’re able to find some peace by the end of this month~ But if not, that’s okay too! It’s impossible to know how we’ll feel when the world is so unpredictable and turned around right now.
