I adore all things Mazey Eddings so You Won’t Forget Me was an auto-read! I love musicians, stories about doing the brave thing, and later in life queer awakenings. Keep reading this book review of You Won’t Forget Me for my full thoughts.
Summary
Cubby Clark is the heart of her band—loyal, earnest, and determined to make music that matters. But just as they’re about to break out, Connor, her on-again, off-again boyfriend walks away . . . and rockets to solo fame with a hit song tearing her down.
Left with a fractured band, a publicly adored and toxic ex, and relentless writer’s block, Cubby is barely holding it together.
The only thing keeping her steady are her friends and bandmates Darcy and Harry. Especially Darcy—bright, magnetic, and more guarded than she lets on. But, when a seemingly romantic photo of Cubby and Harry goes viral the same night Cubby and Darcy hook-up, the inseparable pair begin to fracture.
Thrust into a whirlwind tour, Cubby and Darcy are forced into close quarters. Now Cubby has one summer to decide what she’s willing to risk. Walking away would be easier. But staying might mean everything.
Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
You Won’t Forget Me revolves around wondering if we stay or go. If we do the hard thing and stay, work for what we want, confront our fears and vulnerabilities OR we cut and run. It’s easy to detach, to avoid the hard conversations, to never confront our own insecurities. But it’s the braver thing to stay, to look ourselves in the mirror and confront our own possibility of happiness. You Won’t Forget Me made me tear up, laugh out loud, and swoon. I love a good later in life queer awakening and this delivers! There’s messy public breakups, toxic attachment to social media, and mental health. It’s everything I come to expect in a Mazey Eddings book and more!
You Won’t Forget Me examines both the joy of making music, but also the pitfalls. The vulnerability we share with the world and the cost of being a public figure. It illustrates how we are afforded less time to develop, less time to process, and held to unrealistic and inflated standards. This queer romance is full of Easter Eggs for other Eddings books and it explores mental health, leaning on others for support, and protecting ourselves.
