I have been excited for The Heirs ever since I heard about it. And it’s this twisty contemporary about family secrets and betrayal. Keep reading this book review of The Heirs for my full thoughts.
Summary
Octavius the Maestro.
Fola the Brain.
Bilal the Olympian.
Perdita the Artist.
Romeo the Failure.
These are the five heirs of the illustrious billionaire Leontes Button. Adopted and viciously trained with their father’s infamous “Button Method” to prove his hypothesis for creating prodigies—child geniuses—the Button siblings have had no choice but to be brilliant according to their father’s impossibly high standards.
Until he is murdered at his annual Prodigy Ball.
Now, all who attended the ball are required to stay in the Button Manor while the police investigate. But the officers have their work cut out for them—each of the Button siblings has something to hide, but The Heirs aren’t the only ones with secrets. After all, Leontes Button was especially good at making enemies. . .
Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
The Heirs gives me almost an Umbrella Academy vibe. It’s a testament to what happens when you give someone money to treat the world as a playground. To take these ideas, these ambitions and to make them real no matter the costs. The Heirs exists at this nexus of family secrets, resentment, and failure. There’s an immense weight to the name, the scars, and the simmering rage to show for it. It tests what is in our nature, what we nurture, and what we turn into. Everyone has their secrets and as the story unfolds we become wrapped up in it, complicit as well.
We can’t rule out anyone as we become embroiled in this story of fake alibis, truths that look like confessions, and the intersection of guilt and rage. It’s a twisty thriller meets family mystery as they unfold their own stories. You won’t be able to predict what comes next and so if you love a good puzzle full of rich character dynamics, check this out!
