Summary
The realm’s darkest secret is out.
The cruelty of the capital and the power-hungry King Arden have scattered Bleak and her companions across the continents.
On the run in a foreign land, Bleak finds herself tied to some unexpected strangers. When the answers she yearns for are finally within reach, she must face the hard truths of her past, and take her fate into her own hands before it’s too late.
Meanwhile, secrets and magic unravel as a dark power corrupts the realm. Bleak’s friends are forced to decide where their loyalties lie, and who, if anyone, they can trust.
But one thing is certain: war is coming, and they must all be ready when it does.
Intriguing and action-packed, Reign of Mist is the second installment in Helen Scheuerer’s epic YA fantasy series, The Oremere Chronicles.
Review
(Disclaimer: I received this free book from the author. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
To say I adored Reign of Mist is a vast understatement. This series has quickly made a snug home on my list of favorite fantasy series. It has fantastic world building, wonderful character development, and an epic story line that boggles my mind thinking about the skill needed to put it together.
Seriously. Add this to your TBR, put it in your cart, get it into your hands now. I’m obsessed. This takes the world and characters we loved from Heart of Mist and just furthers the development. In every way.
I actually can’t pick my favorite character. I rarely ever say that, even think it! But it’s true. I love Henri’s touch exterior and the way she is really challenged in this book. I adore Bleak’s loyalty throughout it all (and her new companion!) I will never get over how refreshing it is to read about a character who is struggling with addiction in a fantasy world, more of these please! Dash goes through so much here and he’s my precious cinnamon bun so I had some serious angst here. Also Swinton, you old fool, I’m in love with you even though I want to shake you almost all the time.
And I could go on and on. Truly. Each of these characters make a home in your heart and I’ll remember them forever. They are that memorable and even though the scope of this series is so epic, each of them are truly unique.
Speaking of scope, the story line here is expanded in a way I never could have predicted. Just another reason I am never destined to write, I mean look at this competition! I’d rather read these epic fantasies all day long. It defies logic to me. The parts slowly come together exquisitely. This entire book, series, is just exquisite.
It’s entrancing to see all these people slowly move towards each other, like magnets, pushing and pulling. The plot builds upon itself like a crescendo until you’re at the end needing the next one. Like really. I need the next one now.
