When I was first planning my calendar, I was like, “Oh I’ll have a ton of books for this prompt”. And then I looked at my shelf. Books that take place in a fictional fantasy realm I wasn’t sure if they counted – and then I realized I would have to be more creative. This is part of the Top Ten Tuesday series that is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl now!
- The Leavers. While a large part of this book takes place in the US, a huge chunk takes place in China as well. These scenes and time there are essential to the story as a whole.
- The Astonishing Color of After. It has a similar situation as The Leavers. Our main character spends time in Taiwan that is integral to her journey.
And now my non-cheating answers:
- Sisters of the Crescent Empress takes place in this magical Russia setting.
- Pachinko. This takes place in Japan and Korea.
- Song of Achilles takes place in Greece.
- Paris Adrift – like the name might suggest, takes place in Paris.
- Escape from Aleppo takes place in Syria.
- The Night Diary takes place in Pakistan/India.
- Pride and Prometheus takes place in England.
So there you go, some cheating answers, some real answers. But this does give me an idea to do another list with FANTASY worlds and those that take place IN SPACE.
Greece and PAris are two places I always enjoy reading about. And China!
I think a list of places in fantasy or in space would be cool!
Oh I do love Greece! Like with Circe!
Hahaha – I can totally get behind the idea that fictional fantasy realms count! I never realized how many books I read take place in the US.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I am making it a reality!
Well, I have Pachinko but haven’t read it yet. I have Americanah which is set in Nigeria. A Thousand Splendid Suns which is set in Afghanistan? Some British books, some American books.
Oh I totally forgot about The Kite Runner!!!
Nice list! I haven’t read any of these yet but The Astonishing Color and Pachinko are definitely on my TBR. In fact, The Astonishing COlor is one of my most anticipated reads of 2018 😀 I am so excited to read it.
