Review: Wild and Wrangled by Lyla Sage

Wild and Wrangled is my favorite of the Rebel Blue Ranch books. Maybe part of that is that this one includes cameos from the other books. But it’s also that I’ve been wanting a book about Cam FOREVER! Keep reading this book review of Wild and Wrangled for my full thoughts.

Summary

Camille Ashwood had always loved a plan. Her latest was her best yet. She was going to get married so she could secure her daughter’s future, get her overbearing parents off her back, and finally start building her own life in small town Meadowlark, Wyoming. Easy, right?

But when her groom doesn’t show up to the wedding, Cam’s life is turned upside down—she doesn’t even have a place to live. That is, until she finds out the house she’s loved since high school is available to rent. There’s only one problem: the neighbor.

Dusty Tucker has spent nearly all of his adult life running. Running from what, though? More like who: Cam Ashwood. But ever since he returned home last year, the girl who was his first, well, everything has become a woman seemingly determined to keep him at arm’s length. And he was okay with that—at least, that’s what he kept telling himself. She was getting married, after all. But now she’s single and living next door. Dusty wants to show her that they can be friends, and that he can stay put.

Despite her best attempts to stay far away from Dusty Tucker, Cam realizes that being close to him is like slipping on her favorite jeans. Easy. Comfortable. That is until past wounds start to open and feelings—both old and new—wreak havoc. Nearly ten years after they first met, Dusty and Cam begin to wonder if their first love can also be their last. And this time, will it be forever?

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Wild and Wrangled is a second chance romance that builds on the momentum and heartstrings of the entire Rebel Blue Ranch series. It made my heart swell partly because of the cameos of my favorite characters. But second chance romance will always hit me in the soft spot. I loved the flashbacks not only to give us a sense of who they were before, but who their ghosts are. Can Cam regain her sense of bravery from before? She’s used to being brave for others, but what about for herself? Doesn’t she deserve a partner to shoulder some of the weight she carries, a hand to hold in a storm?

If you love peak friends to lovers and those who tend to talk ourselves out of something good, this is for you. I love a man who is clear about what he wants and if you will do, Dusty is catnip. He knows his heart and knows he cannot lose this chance again. But for Cam, her past defined who she is and her actions every day since. Cam is so used to having to bear the brunt of her parent’s awfulness – seriously – and modeling love for those around her. And sometimes it’s terrifying as hell to be faced with someone we can let down around.

She’s never been able to trust a home, so what would it mean to settle into one? Wild and Wrangled cements the found family and home in Rebel Blue Ranch. And I love how this family is always there for those who need it. Wild and Wrangled is about reigniting the sparks that never died, but have been simmering ever since. It’s about a world that wants to discount young love the kind that resonates when it’s right. Find Wild and Wrangled on Goodreads, Storygraph, Amazon, Bookshop.org, Blackwells, & Libro. fm.
