We Dance Upon Demons is my latest obsession. I adore the mix of this horrific state of our world and the speculative. Talk about a book which is gut wrenching and hopeful. Keep reading this book review of We Dance Upon Demons for my full thoughts.
Summary
As a reproductive health care worker in Chicago, Nisha is barely staying afloat in the ocean of abortion bans, screaming protestors, and her own all-consuming depression.
When she escapes to the Indian art exhibit at her favorite museum for a brief respite, Nisha suddenly finds herself bleeding, disoriented, and collapsed on the ground. The last thing she remembers is the statue that beckoned her to touch it. In the days that follow, Nisha feels a strange power coursing within her, one that attracts a host of dangerous and enigmatic characters who covet it for themselves.
Facing threats both otherworldly and distinctly human, Nisha must navigate uncertain alliances to piece together the centuries-old mystery of her odd and terrifying abilities. And as danger closes in on her loved ones, community, and the clinic she’s determined to protect, Nisha must make a choice about the life she wants—and fight all the demons standing in her way to get it.
Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
We Dance Upon Demons is this contemporary fantasy which portrays this raw and vulnerable story about fighting to give women care. For Nisha she fights against hatred, ignorance, and cruelty. She sees demons in human clothing. But what happens when she starts seeing actual demons? Not just ones who don’t care about people’s health, lives, or just for their own opinions. It feels like snippets out of a nightmare dystopia which is unfortunately our reality. In many ways, We Dance Upon Demons is about the dangers from outside and within. The extremity and trouble mounting from all around.

We Dance Upon Demons explores power. What would we do if we had a taste of power and how could things be different? But at the end of the day it’s a story based on Nisha’s life, her re-discovery of dance, and her clinic. About how we can survive to still live in the spite of these dangers and this hatred. We can feel so powerless, but We Dance Upon Demons is a story about power, but not how you might think. It’s about the powers in community, in friendship, in family. In people who are united for a common good and how we can face this rising tide and persevere, to live. Find We Dance Upon Demons on Goodreads, Storygraph, Bookshop. org, Blackwells, & Libro. fm.
