Review: The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society by C.M. Waggoner

If you have ever loved this small town detective series, the Murder She Wrote kind of vibes, but you always thought things seemed a bit too convenient. That there had to be something else going on. Then you’ll have to pick yourself up a copy of The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society. Keep reading this book review of The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society for my full thoughts.

Summary

Librarian Sherry Pinkwhistle keeps finding bodies—and solving murders. But she’s concerned by just how many killers she’s had to track down in her quaint village. None of her neighbors seem surprised by the rising body count…but Sherry is becoming convinced that whatever has been causing these deaths is unnatural. But when someone close to Sherry ends up dead, and her cat, Lord Thomas Crowell, becomes possessed by what seems to be an ancient demon, Sherry begins to think she’s going to need to become an exorcist as well as an amateur sleuth. With the help of her town’s new priest, and an assortment of friends who dub themselves the “Demon-Hunting Society,” Sherry will have to solve the murder and get rid of a demon. This riotous mix of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Murder, She Wrote is a lesson for demons and murderers.

Never mess with a librarian.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

I am a sucker for a good wordy title and The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society delivers. Not only that, but I adore the premise. It’s like if you were transplanted into a Wandavision scenario where you’ve moved into this new town and all of a sudden people start dropping like flies. And you’re like, “isn’t that odd?” and no one bats and eye. But you can’t get over the coincidences. The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society is perfect for those growing up on Murder She Wrote and love a bit of the supernatural. The mystery propels readers through a story that quickly takes a turn.

I ended up finishing in a few days. The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society straddles the line of being a cozy town (except for the murders), a perplexing mystery, and a quirky main character. With secrets on every level, it’s a story which does not allow the past, or our fears, to be buried.
