Review: Marriage & Masti by Nisha Sharma

For fans of spicy romances, characters which will make you swoon, and Shakespeare, meet Marriage & Masti. I love this If Shakespeare Was an Auntie series and this is my favorite! Maybe it’s because I love Twelfth Night, but I couldn’t stop reading at night! Keep reading this book review of Marriage & Masti for my full thoughts.

Summary

Veera Mathur has been through a lot in the past year. Both of her friends found soul mates, the man she fell in love with got engaged to another woman, and her father fired her before selling the family company. When her twin sister, Sana, tells her there is no way of getting her old life back, Veera feels lost at a single, unemployed mess with a bad tattoo and tons of talent, but nowhere to go.

Deepak Datta hasn’t had the best luck either. To secure enough board votes for the CEO position at his family’s company, Illyria Media, he’s ready to marry board member and famous beauty influencer, Olivia Gupta. That is until he wakes up to a get ready with me video announcing their separation. Despite his immediate relief, Deepak needs to do something fast to repair his image.

After a series of convenient mishaps bring them together again—including a literal shipwreck, way too many drinks, and a sunset elopement on the beach—Deepak and Veera realize their accidental wedding might be the solution to their career aspirations. Together, they plot against the very company that ruined their lives in the first place.

As they try to convince the world their friendship was a ruse for romance they’ve felt all along, the line between fake and real begins to blur. Now Veera and Deepak must ask themselves the terrifying question that has haunted them since the first time they will love ruin everything?

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

I will read anything Twelfth Night at this point. And combine that with second chance romance and I’m absolutely in love. Being dual POV, I was in love from the start. I adored how it’s a combination of second chance romance and he ‘thinks’ he falls first. We also love a good fake marriage with two characters who have a lot of history. How it’s definitely a great PR move, but how there’s a real instant connection between them. Marriage & Masti is a loose retelling which has some elements I wish had a bit more space, but in general, I adored this book!

Marriage & Masti is a true joy. It has the predictable rules to fake dating, the ‘chemistry tests’, but there’s also this deep conversation about Veera’s family and how she’s been pushed out of the business world. For her she has to figure out who she wants to be. What her future could hold for her. It’s about the core of family and friends which supports us, or not, and when they need us. It’s a world of board politics and business backhands. Deepak is a big cutie as he has to figure out his mistakes from the past, but also what he can do to convince Veera.

To show her he’s serious. And to prove that a relationship, his love, would be more important than business – the exact opposite of what her parents did. Marriage & Masti is my favorite of the series. With great spice and character dynamics – we love supportive partners – and couples who scheme together.
