Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
Human Rites was a good series ender. We hit the ground running with a bombshell. In many ways, Human Rites brings together threads that have been in the making for many books now. What role is fate and will we fulfill the fate, the destiny, the doom, in front of us? Something bad is coming and the Coven is going to need all hands on deck. Human Rites shows us we cannot run from anything. With multiple chapters focusing on different characters, we see the ways fate has been pulling strings for decades now. The ways we didn’t see the signs, but they were always there. Flipping to different characters was fun and it keeps the pace fast!
We can never be who we were before. And change – even good change – requires sacrifice. In many ways, Human Rites is about cycles of violence. How do we tip the scales towards justice instead of just retribution? As we are asked to sacrifice, what is the final straw going to be? My biggest complaint with this series ender is the end. It felt a bit anti-climactic given the momentum and was a total whirlwind. I liked the ending ending, but the actual BIG ending felt a bit too convenient in some ways. In some ways, I didn’t feel like I had to work for it? There were these huge stakes, but I’m not sure I really truly felt them deep in my bones.
