Review: How to Steal a Galaxy by Beth Revis

The Chaotic Orbits series is so fun. How to Steal a Galaxy is an amazing sequel that will have you pre-ordering book three immediately. It’s hilarious, has amazing banter, and a bounty hunter with a heart. Keep reading this book review of How to Steal a Galaxy for my full thoughts.

Summary

Ada had no intention whatsoever to continue working for the rebel group that hired her to retrieve the government’s plans for a nanobot climate cleaner if they weren’t willing to pay her for it, but then they offer a different an undercover mission to a charity gala where Rian will be in attendance. Rian, meanwhile, has volunteered his services for the gala believing that the rare items up for auction will attract Ada’s eye. Hoping to catch her in the act and pin her with a punishable crime, Rian has no idea that Ada’s real mission is to convince him to join the rebels. And the rebels have no idea that Ada’s decided that kidnapping Rian is the most efficient means to an end.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

How to Steal a Galaxy was a hilarious and entertaining ride. I loved every minute of it. Not only do we have Ada, our bounty hunter with a heart, we have Rian who is so desperately clinging on to the idea that the government can do good. This is the future Rian, where corporations run rampant and you all have spaceships. He’s a sweet naive baby who Ada is educating to see that governments have corruption and that when they also work with corporations who are up to no good, how much good can they do. It’s a story with laugh out loud banter as these two opposite characters clash, but are also drawn to each other.

I love Ada and cannot wait for book three. How to Steal a Galaxy gets into a bit more of the world – and what happened to our former Earth – and I love the way it feels like we’ve opened up more of the galaxy. How does world politics and wealth mix? I feel like we can already see the answers today – not well. At the same time, this series always comes back to asking us if good can triumph over greed and corruption. If, no matter how jaded we feel, our heart is in the right place, can we make a difference?

It goes against Ada’s little cynical heart, but every time she surprises us. Listening to the dual narrator audiobook from Dara Rosenberg & David Bendena was chef’s kiss because we get such a good sense of the characters. We can hear Ada’s playful nature, her sarcasm, and her hidden hopefulness. At the same time, we can hear how much Ada flummoxes Rian and it’s honestly just hilarious. I need book three right now.
