I can’t believe it took me so long to read For She is Wrath. This Count of Monte Cristo retelling is superb. If you love stories about revenge, this is for you! Keep reading this book review of For She is Wrath for my full thoughts.

Summary

Three hundred and sixty-four days.

Framed for a crime she didn’t commit, Dania counts down her days in prison until she can exact revenge on Mazin, the boy responsible for her downfall, the boy she once loved—and still can’t forget. When she discovers a fellow prisoner may have the key to exacting that vengeance–a stolen djinn treasure–they execute a daring escape together and search for the hidden treasure.

Armed with dark magic and a new identity, Dania enacts a plan to bring down those who betrayed her and her family, even though Mazin stands in her way. But seeking revenge becomes a complicated game of cat and mouse, especially when an undeniable fire still burns between them, and the power to destroy her enemies has a price. As Dania falls deeper into her web of traps and lies, she risks losing her humanity to her fight for vengeance–and her heart to the only boy she’s ever loved.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

I will always read a Count of Monte Cristo retelling. I love stories about festering revenge, with an underdog and a comeback. And For She is Wrath is my favorite. I adored the set up, the friendship relationships, and the actual revenge journey. I’ve only seen the films, not read the book YET, but I loved that we get to see the transition, the transformation. The ways that revenge will hollow us out and cause us to lose who we are. It is a fire that burns us and can incinerate us to the ground. The past flashbacks were particularly gutting. We witness the scope, the feelings, and the betrayal.

For She is Wrath is about the steel we have to have for revenge, but who else needs to pay the price? It can be a lonely road if we lose ourselves. If you love the idea of a story about the obsessive nature of revenge meets magic, you have to pick up For She is Wrath. It perfectly encapsulates when we are one step away from the abyss, from the monster, and the sacrifices we make. And Safiyya Ingar did a phenomenal job with the emotions in the narration. I couldn’t stop listening because of how transported I was. Find For She is Wrath on Goodreads, Storygraph, Amazon, Bookshop. org, Blackwells, & Libro. fm.
