Review: Find Me Where It Ends by Cassandra Khaw

Find Me Where It Ends totally surprised me in the best way. Having read Khaw’s past works, I’m not sure what I was expecting, but the emotions got me! Keep reading this book review of Find Me Where It Ends for my full thoughts.

Summary

Antigone is no stranger to death.

For the women of her family, death always comes in the form of a black dog.

When Antigone’s own black dog arrives, she isn’t afraid. She invites it inside, where it soon becomes a daily source of companionship and comfort. It also forces her to reflect on the life she’s led—the parts of herself she’s hollowed out for the sake of others, and the bone-deep exhaustion that’s hounded her every step.

Her Death’s arrival must be a sign, permission to finally let go. To rest. Because while mortality is inevitable, living is a choice.

But a good death comes at a price.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

I ADORE the figure of a black dog of death spelling our doom, following our footsteps. Find Me Where It Ends explores mental health, suicidal ideation, and the spectre of our death. The ways our death can haunt our dreams on the sunniest days, the whispers before we fall asleep, and the reflections in the mirror. It’s about the haunting of the past and the future. In Find Me Where It Ends we examine our relationship with the past and with loss. How we can be haunted, but also the ways the living have to let go of our ghosts, demons, and haunts.

People who have been losing their sleeps, the awful thoughts they can’t exorcise, and these memories of our worst fears realized and echoed in words from family, a friend, or ourselves. Find Me Where It Ends really puts you through the emotional wringer in a beautiful speculative way as we see how death is tied up with living. How part of our relationship to our ghosts is our ability to let go. Find Find Me Where It Ends on Goodreads, Storygraph, Blackwells, Bookshop. org & Libro. fm.
