Mid-Year Book Freakout TAG

I have seen this TAG everywhere and thought I would join in. I actually haven’t been tagged at all, but all my faves are doing it and so I decided to throw caution to the wind and join in! The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag was originally created by booktubers Read Like Wildfire and Earl Grey Books.

Traitor's Blade by Sebastien de Castell1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

This is the hardest question by far. I mean it’s just cruel. I can’t even imagine how much harder this will be for my yearly wrap up….But if I had to pick one for this year, I would have to go with *drumroll please* Traitor’s Blade. I know that you may have been able to forsee this, because I talk about the Greatcoats series all the time, but it was so hard to choose between this and Six of Crows. But this is a series where I read all four this year and it became one of my favorite adult fantasy series.

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2017?

HA! Here I can show my love of Bardugo by choosing Crooked Kingdom! The sequel to Six of Crows. This will soothe my guilty conscience by showing this amazing series the love it deserves. Seriously. All the Love.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?

I am going to take a page from Alicia‘s Book and say, When Dimple Met Rishi. I have heard so many wonderful things about this book and I know I have to pick it up from the library when I’m home.

4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2017?

Ugh I got to go with Warcross by Marie Lu. I have been trying to get my hands on a copy of this before it releases like a fish needs air. It hasn’t worked, so the hype is so real for me!

Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed5. Biggest Disappointment?

Oh no, I hate talking about books I didn’t like, but I will voice the opinion that Written in the Stars was not my cup of tea.

6. Biggest Surprise?

This is another intense question, but maybe this whole tag is like a pre-workout before the end of the year. I will have to go with Sleeping Giants. I hadn’t heard that much buzz about this and have only seen the Iron Giant once, so it’s not like I was a huge giant robot fan. But this ended up really surprising me about how much I enjoyed it. And with a cover like that!

When the Moon Was Ours by Anna.-Marie McLemore7. Favorite New Author?

Anne Marie McLemore hands down. I have read all of her books and LOVED each and every single one. I started with When the Moon Was Ours, transitioned into Weight of Feathers and just finished Wild Beauty. My love for her is so real. Her writing is dreamlike.

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

I don’t normally have ‘crushes’, but I was in love with the parents in Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Like please, be my third set of parents. They are so cool, compassionate, and supportive.

9. Newest Favorite Character?

Kan from Girl on the Verge. She spoke to my heart and it was amazing to read her point of view. Her difficulty balancing all these cultural expectations just resonated so much with me.

10. Book That Made You Cry?

Tyrant’s Throne made me cry so much. It’s the end of the Greatcoats series so it was emotional because of that, but I’ve spent so much time with all the characters that their ‘wrap up’ was incredibly touching. So much highlighting went on during this book.

Alchemists of Loom Elise Kova11. Book That Made You Happy?

99.9% of all the books I read made me happy this year, so that’s fantastic. If I had to pick one though, I recently fell so hard in love with The Alchemists of Loom. That book has so much of everything I have been missing in fantasy.

12. Favorite Book To Movie Adaptation You Saw This Year?

I haven’t seen any of these book to movie adaptations this year, BUT I am the most excited to watch The Handmaid’s Tale Hulu show because I read the book years ago and really loved it.

13. Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year?

I will not pick a favorite. I always enjoy writing Kova’s and McLemore’s reviews. My passion for Kova’s story and fangirl mode make writing the review feel like one big session. The McLemore reviews always make me happy because they are wonderfully written and inspire me to write more beautiful reviews.

14. Most Beautiful Book You Bought So Far This Year?

If we are going for pure cover, which I assume we are, I bought, and haven’t read yet The Bone Gap

15. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?

I have so many levels I still have to read. Most recently I am looking forward to Library of Fates. I am also looking forward to the release of Forest of a Thousand Lanterns. I have the ARC next to me that I haven’t started, on loan from Laura. Akata Warrior is a sequel I am really looking forward to reading.

  1. I’ve heard such good things about When The Moon Was Ours. I absolutely agree I love Ari and Dante’s parents are amazing and we need more parents like them in this world. I’m also really excited for Warcross. i requested the ARC but I’m not sure I’ll actually get it but the hype is real.
