Blog Tour: Review + Quotes: Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron + Giveaway

Kingdom of Souls is one of my most anticipated books for the fall. Talk about a powerhouse fantasy setting meeting complex family dynamics. And I was not disappointed at all.

Summary

Arrah is a young woman from a long line of the most powerful witch doctors in the land. But she fails at magic, fails to call upon the ancestors and can’t even cast the simplest curse.

Shame and disappointment dog her.

When strange premonitions befall her family and children in the kingdom begin to disappear, Arrah undergoes the dangerous and scorned process of selling years of her life for magic. This borrowed power reveals a nightmarish betrayal and a danger beyond what she could have imagined. Now Arrah must find a way to master magic, or at least buy it, in order to save herself and everything she holds dear.

Tw: torture, self harm

Kingdom of Souls is a sweeping new fantasy which will captivate you. Whether you can relate to Arrah’s feelings of being left out – waiting for your life to start like you imagine it or her determination to save her family. Last chances, betrayal, and unknowing compromises. What will we do to taste the magic out of our grip? Barron will take you on a journey that will you leave you gasping. There are plot twists that leave your heart wrenching, betrayals that will leave your jaw hanging open, and emotions that leave your stomach in knots.

Stories decades in the making, unearthing buried secrets, Kingdom of Souls demands to be read. When dreams seem just out of our reach, what will we do to secure our future? Kingdom of Souls is a story about vengeance and loss, sides of the same coin like life and death. A story about being unable to stand by as darkness reigns, monsters roam, and not allowing those to be protected for their cowardice. At the same time, what sticks with me days after finishing is how Kingdom of Souls is a story about loss.

Whether it be feeling the loss of something that never was really ours, something we held on to so tightly, or the knowledge that we will never be the same. When our loss twists us, makes us lose a piece of ourselves – and how we can deal with this gaping hole. It’s a story about the choices we make. How our choices define us, influenced by those around us. How we mourn the people we love, their decisions, and the precious moments.
