Subscription Box: Magic Chest March Unboxing

Today I wanted to sing the praises of a new subscription box I subscribed to called Magic Chest. I have been on the search for a great subscription box since I came to live in Germany for my studies. It was so difficult! All the things I found were based in the UK and shipping is so darn expensive. It became unfeasible. I had almost given up, until I found this little gem while searching one day.

What You Get

Magic Chest is primarily interested in newly released fantasy books. According to the website, “In your box, you will find one hand-picked fantasy book and 3-5 bookish and magical items which will help you to navigate through the new world of the month”. I have just gotten my first box and I couldn’t be happier.

So in this box I got the newly released, Daughter of the Pirate King. I had been eyeing this book, but I wasn’t entirely sure yet whether I wanted to get it.

If you don’t know, it is about: Sent on a mission to retrieve an ancient hidden map—the key to a legendary treasure trove—seventeen-year-old pirate captain Alosa deliberately allows herself to be captured by her enemies, giving her the perfect opportunity to search their ship. More than a match for the ruthless pirate crew, Alosa has only one thing standing between her and the map: her captor, the unexpectedly clever and unfairly attractive first mate, Riden. But not to worry, for Alosa has a few tricks up her sleeve, and no lone pirate can stop the Daughter of the Pirate King.

Well indecision solved, for now I have it. As you can see, it also came with a matching bookmark, (love these) and a signed bookplate. I love this little detail because it makes it so much more personal to have it signed. It is also my first ever bookplate, and my second signed book! So even more exciting.

Also included in this book, ranging from excitement level, is a lovely watch, a fresh smelling candle, and fake pirate money. I had been meaning to buy myself one of these clocks and I am so pleased to have this one. It has a gorgeous compass face and I can easily modify it into a necklace…which I am so going to do. The candle is really light smelling, which is good, and I can’t wait to burn it and put it into photos, muhaha. Lastly, the pirate gold is a wonderful touch and I am looking forward to using it as a prop for instagram in the future.

The Details

The box costs 29.99 euros a month, if you pay by the month and 86.97 if you pay for three months, and 167.94 if you prepay for the year. I got this box with a promo code and saved myself 30% off so I went ahead and took the plunge for three months. I could not be happier.

What’s to Come

The next box is themed after Beauty and the Beast retellings (the April Box) and the May box is Thieves and Smugglers, which you can buy on their main website. Check out their instagram, facebook, and twitter for sneak peeks. I am beyond excited and seriously considering getting another three months…if my wallet smiles down upon me. It’s a total dream come true and I am in love.

Let’s Discuss: What do you think about subscription boxes? Ever tried one?
