Review: The Baby Dragon Bakery by A.T. Qureshi

I have been slowly catching up on The Baby Dragon series. Look, I hear dragons, contemporary fantasy, and I come running. And while book one still is my favorite, The Baby Dragon is a cute sequel! Keep reading this book review of The Baby Dragon Bakery for my full thoughts.

Summary

Lavinia has it all. A loving family (complete with adorable pet baby dragon). A place at university training to be a magical animal vet. And a part-time job at the enchanting Baby Dragon Cafe. The only thing she doesn’t have is her one true love: Theo.

Theo is the local baker and her best friend. On paper, they’re perfect: he’s funny, she’s witty. He’s sweet, and she’s a little salty. That’s why they’ve been friends for as long as they can remember. They’ve never been without one another – and it’s clear to everyone that they’re meant to be.

Everyone except Theo. Because when Lavinia finally makes her move, he pulls away.

Lavinia is devastated. Has this friendship gone up in smoke? Or will Theo finally realise that he wants them to be more than friends?

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

This dual POV friends to lovers story is a must read for fans of friends to lovers. The Baby Dragon Bakery is full of pining, of not knowing if it’s worth it to ruin the friendship, and miscommunication. It’s about trying to deny our feelings, of being so immersed in our feels that we don’t see what in front of our face. If you love emotional angst, The Baby Dragon Bakery is for you. It’s for fans of “everyone can see this except you” and the angst of not knowing if we should say something. Of seeing the one we love with someone else. The Baby Dragon Bakery brings on the heart twisting and “Ruin the Friendship” vibes.

While I wasn’t totally in the mood for a miscommunication emotional angst when I read it, I do love a good friends to lovers. I think the dual POV just ups the emotional intensity to 1000%. There’s a whole lot of yelling and wanting to lock them in the same room. But I deeply empathize with not knowing if it’s worth taking the shot. If we can lose the person who knows us the best, our best friend, on a chance. Having something which might be hollow, but is ours versus losing it all. (Also be prepared for less dragons than the first if that was your major draw!) It’s a natural sequel to these side characters in The Baby Dragon Cafe, but I’m even more excited for The Baby Dragon Bookshop.
