Review: Original Twin by Paula Gleeson

If you love a story about sisters and family secrets, then you have to read Original Twin. Original Twin had be eagerly picking up my book every day so I could find out the latest twist. It’s a story which I’ve already recommended to my thriller fans. Keep reading this book review of Original Twin for my full thoughts.

Summary

Twin sisters May and June couldn’t be more different. May is quiet, self-conscious, withdrawn; June is boisterous, beautiful, magnetic…and missing.

It’s been a year since June disappeared, a year of May waiting for her to turn up with an explanation of where she’s been and why she left. But with the discovery of an old newspaper article comes a secret: Their mother once vanished, too, on the same date when she was nineteen years old.

Just like June.

This was no coincidence. June was investigating this buried family mystery, and she left May a series of clues to pick up where she left off. Now, if May wants to find June, she’ll have to retrace her footsteps through their mother’s past.

The more answers she digs up, the more questions May has. And the biggest one of all: When her sister’s trail of breadcrumbs runs out, what will she find?

Review

Original Twins is for those who love books about twins and sisters. About another person who is supposed to know us inside and out. And what happens when they don’t. We can think we know all about someone, but Original Twin proves us that we’re only scratching the surface. With any twin or sibling book, you think a lot about nature versus nurture. We think about all the ways we are the same and different. Original Twin has a compelling hook. One of my favorite aspects are the letters or snippets into her mother’s headspace.

Original Twin is a twisty thriller which explores what it means to ‘escape’. All the things, and people, we would sacrifice for our own skin. May is racing against the clock to find out not only more about June, but her own mother. It’s proof the past is never truly gone. It delivers two levels of mystery which becomes enthralling. The cruel things we say to the ones we love. Find Original Twin on Goodreads, Storygraph, Amazon, Bookshop.org, & Blackwells.
