Are you looking for explosions, some rebellions, and space chases? Then you’ll have to check out this YA SF debut, Made of Stars! Outlaws, sacrifice, and betrayal! Keep reading this book review for my full thoughts.
Summary
Shane and Ava are a team. He steals the aircraft, she charms their mark, and together they take what they need. Not even their distracting chemistry could get in the way. Until Shane was caught and left to rot on a prison moon. Now, freshly escaped from confinement and simmering with anger, he has his sights set on their biggest job yet.
Cyrus just graduated from the flight academy with a shiny new position lined up reporting to a well-respected general. On his very first assignment, he stops the outlaws in their tracks–or, he would have, if the annoyingly handsome Lark hadn’t fallen for Ava’s deception.
But when Shane uncovers a top-secret plot that would leave his home world at the mercy of Cyrus’s military leaders, he makes it his mission to thwart them at all costs. It isn’t long before Shane and Ava make interstellar headlines with each new heist. And thanks to a chance run-in with the rebels, Cyrus is caught between two versions of the truth. He must pick a side and fast. Because Shane and Ava will bring the planet to its knees…or die trying.
Review
(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
I immediately loved the feeling of this SF world in Made of Stars. Look, I heard Bonnie and Clyde in space and started running, ok? If you love not only rebellions, outlaws, and a bit of trouble, but also those characters who never wanted to be heroes? Then Made of Stars is for you. A huge theme, reflected throughout the book, is this idea of when we will speak up. Often it’s not easy, it’s more than difficult to speak up against a system of power. We risk ourselves, our homes, our families.
But at the end of the day, we have to, because if we don’t then who are we? Made of Stars examines exactly who we become, and who we don’t. In many ways, it’s a story about being in a pressure cooker wondering when enough is enough. When that spark comes that ignites the fuse. Seeing through different character’s eyes allows us to truly witness the cracks in the making. When all the things we’ve seen begin to haunt us.

Against the media spin, the powerful guns, and the stories we want to believe, Made of Stars is a high octane space adventure focused on characters. A world of high stakes, ulterior motives, and dangerous betrayals. Sometimes we aren’t the best choice, aren’t even a great choice, but there are times when we’re the only ones who will do it. Made of Stars is a book about our future that remains hopeful and examines perseverance and bravery.
