Review: Heiress of Nowhere by Stacey Lee

I’ve been a fan of Stacey Lee for years now. I always make sure to read her newest and so I had to read Heiress of Nowhere. This mysterious historical fiction really amps up the mystery! Keep reading this book review of Heiress of Nowhere for my full thoughts.

Summary

1918. Orcas Island, Washington.

Lucy Nowhere has spent her eighteen years working on the vast estate of the eccentric shipbuilder who took her in after she washed ashore in a green canoe as a baby. But she has long wished for a life off the island, and in a matter of days, she is set to leave for college—and, for the first time, choose her own future.

Then she finds her employer’s severed head on the beach. Rumors swirl that a mischievous spirit and its minions, the sea wolves, have struck again. Lucy doesn’t believe in myths. She knows that a human—a human murderer—killed him. And when she is unexpectedly named heiress to the estate, she understands the next target is her.

Her closest friend, the estate’s vigilant young guard, begs her to escape while she can. But Lucy knows the only way she can discover who she is, and free the island of its curse, is to find the real killer—before she becomes the next victim.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

With an eerieness and atmosphere, Heiress of Nowhere is a historical fiction with an incredibly powerful mystery. There are immediately motives swirling about and if you love a blend of historical fiction and mystery, this is for you! There are plenty of twists and turns which will have you guessing. I loved this combination and with almost a slightly speculative feel to it with all the talk about the sea wolves and what they are capable of. There’s something majestic, powerful, and terrifying about them. Heiress of Nowhere is very much a mystery fueled by money, possibilities, and the shadow of opportunity.

It’s about unraveling the mystery of her origins and her future. People end up surprising us, disappointing us, and terrifying us. In Lee’s books characters and people are pushed to their limits of what they can do. I have been a fan of Stacey Lee’s for years now and this book merely continues the tradition. It feels the most atmospheric and mysterious at the same time of all the books so far! Find Heiress of Nowhere on Goodreads, Storygraph, Bookshop. org, Blackwells, & Libro. fm.
