I really loved Kwan’s last book and so I knew I had to read The Legend of the Nine-Tailed Fox. This enemies to lovers fantasy is perfect for that knife edge between banter and intent. Keep reading this book review of The Legend of the Nine-Tailed Fox for my full thoughts.
Summary
Yue may be the last of her kind. At night, she stalks the streets of the capital city of Longhao, luring in unsuspecting victims with the mask of a beautiful woman, then consuming them in her true form of the nine-tailed fox.
When she is captured by a powerful demon hunter named Sonam and banished to Hell, she manages one final act of dragging him—and two of his subordinates—down with her.
Now trapped in an abyss with unimaginable terrors, they’ll need each other’s help to navigate Hell and bypass the gods who preside over each circle, each of whom presents the group with a unique and deadly challenge. Forced to depend on one another as they claw their way out of the underworld, both demon and demon hunter discover that there might be more to the other than meets the eye.
Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
I fell into The Legend of the Nine-Tailed Fox. I was drawn to the quick witter banter, the anger, the not knowing if the sharp edges are going to cut. The world is captivating as bargains, creatures, and shadows are revealed. If you love a good story about trying to escape Hell, then you have to check out The Legend of the Nine-Tailed Fox. It’s an unexpected vulnerable book as Yue is forced to confront her own past, the mistakes she hates herself for, and her own face. We can be so hell bent on revenge that we forget what our life consisted of before. Don’t even get me started on how much I loved the demon hunting journal entries!
What would happen to us if we gave up on our vengeance? Or if it didn’t taste like what we thought it would? Sometimes our nightmares are more deadly than we think. The Legend of the Nine-Tailed Fox is a slow build about choosing our future. About deciding if we want to continue down that path or if we are convinced we can change. It lived up to the hype I had from The Last Dragon of the East with some cute Easter Eggs as well!
