After the sensation of Immortal Dark, I knew I had to read Eternal Ruin. This sequel makes it harder for me to wait for book three. I know book two just came out, but come on! That ending! This one very much feels like a cat and mouse game of secrets. Keep reading this book review of Eternal Ruin for my full thoughts.

I’ve been looking forward to Eternal Ruin since the moment I finished Immortal Dark. This sequel revolves around betrayal and trust. So much is on the line and Eternal Ruin centers around what we would do for our goals. Each character has their own shifting ambitions, sacrifices they would make, and pressure points to change their mind. In Eternal Ruin we explore the end game versus right now. Right now, we may betray the ones we love, but what if it’s all to save them in the end? This multiple POV sequel increases the fraught stakes as these characters try to outmaneuver each other.
In some areas I felt like the pacing was a little off – I think it’s hard to balance these mid series reveals with the explosive pacing of the first book and the mystery – Eternal Ruin is a great sequel with some huge twists. I think where this sequel shines is the character work. Eternal Ruin examines this game of vulnerability. We can try so hard in this game of cat and mouse, of betrayal and subterfuge, but to be vulnerable is to be brave. There are these moments of vulnerability where you can truly sense the walls coming down. There are these moments where you can sense them just wanting to let go and to try to be brave.
Eternal Ruin asks us whether we can work within a system. If we need to be within the system to make change and to discover the truth. Sometimes we have to be the closest we can be to discover the rot. It unravels just as many mysteries as it creates. We are asked how much we give in to our emotions and what we will ultimately sacrifice for our goal. I cannot wait for book three!
