This is the first post of Flyleaf‘s discussion series I am doing. I have been following the reviews and doing the giveaways, but I am so excited for the launch of FLYTIP. Today’s prompt is my favorite book covers. I picked five of my favorite book covers which I have already featured on my blog. Can you guess which are my favorite?
The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco
I love the ornate gold pattern. Even more so, I love the combination of the skulls and the girl sitting on the cliff. The way that the pattern frames the girl is one of my favorite parts of this cover.
What do you think? Do you like these overlays? I cannot imagine how gorgeous this would look like in person!
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
I really love the front design of the cover. It is simple, elegant, and beautiful. The combination of three dimensional effects and the color scheme just works!
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
I love this little house. It looks so cozy and lit up in the dark evening, plus the little stars in the background! Yet this cozy picture hides such a gorgeous plot and this image repeats multiple times throughout the novel.
When the Moon Was Ours by Anna Marie McLemore
I think what I love about this book cover is the color scheme. After reading the novel I can appreciate the cover so much more. It is one of those great examples of a cover which actually reflects the book.
Let’s Discuss: What do you think makes a gorgeous book cover?

I think The Bear and the Nightingale is quite a compelling cover. It makes me want to read the book.
Yes it’s gorgeous. If you like Russian folk lore and YA I would recommend it
Oh snap! This is so exciting to see this FLYTIP post!! All your favorites are so lovely. I agree that Pachinko by Min Jin Lee is quite elegant in it’s simplicity. Thanks!
Thanks for hosting <3 I loved this prompt
I totally agree, the covers for Bone Witch, When the Moon Was Ours and Bear and the Nightingale are so pretty! I had never seen the cover for Pachinko before, but I am in LOVE! SO pretty! It may actually be my favorite of them all! These are great, thanks for sharing them!
Thank you for commenting! And yes Pachinko is one I cannot get over.
That Pachinko cover is gorgeous. The first time I saw it, it was an instant attention-grabber.
I tend to gravitate towards minimalist covers with sketches of silhouettes or interesting fonts, instead of photographs of real people. In fact when I published my own book, I used a face sketch for the cover.
YES I have the same taste in covers. That’s an excellent idea for yours! I’m looking forward to it 🙂
