Review: Into the Midnight Void by Mara Fitzgerald

You know I had to read about my favorite anti-heroine. I’ve been looking forward to Into the Midnight Void since I finished Beyond the Ruby Veil. We love a ruthless and ambitions heroine who is 100% convinced she is right. If you have been looking for a refreshing main character, definitely check this series out! Keep reading this book review for my full thoughts!

Summary

Emanuela has finally gotten what she wanted. Since escaping her catacomb prison, she’s started running things her way. Under her rule, citizens no longer give up their lives at the first, tiny appearance of their omens. As long as they aren’t caught bad-mouthing their queen, they can live out their days like everyone else.

But when cracks in her magic start to show, Emanuela begrudgingly allies herself with her enemies, including her frustratingly alluring archnemesis, Verene. Together, discover deeper truths about the mysterious blood magic Emanuela and Verene both wield. There is a higher, otherworldly authority outside the veils, and in order to save Occhia and the other realms, Emanuela may just have to rip another crown off someone’s head

Review

Into the Midnight Void is a fantastic sequel which is a must read for fans of Emanuela. Not only is there more blood and more reckless decisions, there are also explorations of power and ethics. I know I’ve been searching for more heroines with ambition, with the kind of ambition that makes people afraid. In Into the Midnight Void, mysteries keep cropping up. Emanuela and Verene are going to figure out if they can pause their feud long enough to survive.

Because you bet that Into the Midnight Void is full of backstabbing and betrayals. Especially as Emanuela is confronted with memories and those we have hurt. All the people we think we have left behind. Moments that re-surge and return like currents on waves. It is a sequel that delivers ruthless yearning and sapphic moments that melted my cold heart. Fitzgerland merely proves that there’s more than meets the eye.

Jumps and developments in characters we thought we knew. We witness the ways they’ve coped, healed, and re-built. And at the heart of Into the Midnight Void are similar explorations of both raw power and the power of remembrance. It’s a sequel which is full of heart and blood, eyeballs and sacrifices. If you loved Beyond the Ruby Veil, you have to read this one. And if you love the idea of an ambitious girl who is dangerous, but also has to figure out how to achieve true power, then you should pick up this series.
