If you’re afraid of a novella not being able to feel fully fledged, add In the Shadow of the Fall to your TBR. Because In the Shadow of the Fall has a fantastic world and premise. It’s about belief and discovery. Keep reading this book review of In the Shadow of the Fall for my full thoughts.

Summary

Ashâke is an acolyte in the temple of Ifa, yearning for the day she is made a priest and sent out into the world to serve the orisha. But of all the acolytes, she is the only one the orisha refuse to speak to. For years she has watched from the sidelines as peer after peer passes her by and ascends to full priesthood.

Desperate, Ashâke attempts to summon and trap an orisha―any orisha. Instead, she experiences a vision so terrible it draws the attention of a powerful enemy sect and thrusts Ashâke into the center of a centuries-old war that will shatter the very foundations of her world.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

In the Shadow of the Fall begins by asking us what we would do when we feel destiny has passed us by. What would we do if we felt like our greatness was just beyond our fingertips. What would we be driven to do? And it takes that idea and delivers a novella which is captivating. A world which is rich and immersive with every page. For fans who enjoyed The Lies of the Ajungo, you have to read this one! There are similar themes of belief, discoveries, and what we will decide to do with knowledge.

The lies and illusions that are upheld. And the ones that are the first to fall. I personally love a story not only about betrayal, but about when our world fractures. And that brings me to why I liked In the Shadow of the Fall so much. You can feel the stakes and the ways the characters are rocked by their discoveries. That’s something some full length books can’t do! In the Shadow of the Fall is twisty and turny and definitely should be on your TBR!
