Blog Tour: King of Fools by Amanda Foody + GIVEAWAY

Having just finished Ace of Shades last week, I’m so glad I was able to dive straight into King of Fools, but also, why is the next one so far away!

Summary

On the quest to find her missing mother, prim and proper Enne Salta became reluctant allies with Levi Glaisyer, the city’s most famous con man. Saving his life in the Shadow Game forced Enne to assume the identity of Seance, a mysterious underworld figure. Now, with the Chancellor of the Republic dead and bounties on both their heads, she and Levi must play a dangerous game of crime and politics…with the very fate of New Reynes at stake.

Thirsting for his freedom and the chance to build an empire, Levi enters an unlikely partnership with Vianca Augustine’s estranged son. Meanwhile, Enne remains trapped by the mafia donna’s binding oath, playing the roles of both darling lady and cunning street lord, unsure which side of herself reflects the truth.

As Enne and Levi walk a path of unimaginable wealth and opportunity, new relationships and deadly secrets could quickly lead them into ruin. And when unforeseen players enter the game, they must each make an impossible choice: To sacrifice everything they’ve earned in order to survive…

Or die as legends.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from Netgalley. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Everything I adored about Ace of Shades only deepens in color, intensity, and danger in King of Fools. My precious Levi and my beloved Enne. But prepare for King of Fools to wrench your heart throughout your reading progress because it’s truly a roller coaster I haven’t gotten over yet. Have tissues ready. These characters will wring the tears from your eyes whether you cry in compassion or in angst.

Story

Beginning right where Ace of Shades left off, Enne and Levi are thrown headfirst into a new life – one where they have to hide who they are, and where bullets are coming from both sides now. But it’s more than that. As we quickly find out, their actions may have just set off an even bigger avalanche – the promise of a war between the North and South side – and the stakes will be even higher than before.

Foody is an excellent story weaver and you’ll be staying up late to finish King of Fools before you even know it. King of Fools is even more complex because there’s the added promise, the threat of history repeating itself. Can the City of Sin afford to gamble that?

Characters

And we have the character we all know and love. In King of Fools we are treated to Jac’s perspective and you all aren’t even ready. It will give you a whole new appreciation for such a complex side character from Ace of Shades. Definitely the underdog for my love in this book.Jac you’ve stolen my heart with your desire to be the main character of your own story, to have the ability to tell a story.

But you know how much I adore Levi and Enne. Their chemistry. Levi’s noble and soft heart. He’s so precious and even when he’s doing absolutely the wrong thing, you can’t help but feel for his intentions, even if they’re careening down a one way street.

Enne’s determination and commitment to marching to her own drum. Always having felt different, and never belonging, Enne has the chance to carve a space for herself that she determines. A life she can influence and a home she can build for herself and those she cares about. But the biggest struggle Enne has in this book is determining the line between herself and Seance. Is there room for both of them, or will she lose who she was to the city?

Overall,

When everything is on the line, not only their personal lives and everyone around them, but also their way of life, the heart of the city of sin, what will Enne and Levi do? And who might get hurt in the pursuit of justice, revenge, and freedom? Yet again we are presented with the questions of monstrosity, of ethical choices, and of our hands being stained. Can we change who we are even in light of the things we’ve done?
