Review: The Truth According to Ember by Danica Nava

I am so glad I finally read The Truth According to Ember. This romance has been on my TBR since it released and what a perfect way to celebrate February. If you love stories about when a character’s mistakes catch up to them and their character development, this is for you! Keep reading this book review of The Truth According to Ember for my full thoughts.

Summary

Ember Lee Cardinal has not always been a liar—well, not for anything that counted at least. But her job search is not going well and when her resumé is rejected for the thirty-seventh time, she takes matters into her own hands. She gets “creative” listing her qualifications and answers the ethnicity question on applications with a lie—a half-lie, technically. No one wanted Native American Ember, but white Ember has just landed her dream accounting job on Park Avenue (Oklahoma City, that is).

Accountant Ember thrives in corporate life—and her love life seems to be looking up too: Danuwoa Colson, the IT guy and fellow Native who caught her eye on her first day, seems to actually be interested in her too. Despite her unease over the no-dating policy at work, they start to see each other secretly, which somehow makes it even hotter? But when they’re caught in a compromising position on a work trip, a scheming colleague blackmails Ember, threatening to expose their relationship. As the manipulation continues to grow, so do Ember’s lies. She must make the hard decision to either stay silent or finally tell the truth, which could cost her everything.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the Libro.fm. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Immediately I felt for Ember. She’s given up so much and yet when we assume the game we play is fair, when it’s rigged, we never win. I empathize with that 200% Ember! She just needs the right chance. A foot in the door which will help her get ahead. I was always rooting for her. She’s a character who you love even when she makes mistakes and you’re like “Ember how!?” Her story line and character development here is so strong and while this is certainly a romance book, I adore how much care is put into her as an individual character. I know maybe that goes without saying, but it’s not true with every romance book!

I loved how we witnessed her realizing she needs to ask for help. About her making amends, choosing herself, and figuring out what kind of person she wants to be. If you love a romance where you can root for the main character, this is for you! There’s great chemistry, spice, and a wonderful story of finding ourselves and who we want to be. What our actions say about us. Siena East does a great job at putting so much emotion and character into the narration!
