Review: The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston

As a major fan of Ashley Poston, I was so excited for The Seven Year Slip. And I adored it. I wasn’t sure how this time jumping romance would work, but it was an emotional and swoony read. Keep reading this book review for my full thoughts.

Summary

Sometimes, the worst day of your life happens, and you have to figure out how to live after it.

So Clementine forms a plan to keep her heart safe: stay busy, work hard, find someone decent to love, and try to remember to chase the moon. The last one is silly and obviously metaphorical, but her aunt always told her that you needed at least one big dream to keep going. And for the last year, that plan has gone off without a hitch. Mostly. The love part is hard because she doesn’t want to get too close to anyone—she isn’t sure her heart can take it.

And then she finds a strange man standing in the kitchen of her late aunt’s apartment. A man with kind eyes and a Southern drawl and a taste for lemon pies. The kind of man that, before it all, she would’ve fallen head-over-heels for. And she might again.

Except, he exists in the past. Seven years ago, to be exact. And she, quite literally, lives seven years in his future.

Her aunt always said the apartment was a pinch in time, a place where moments blended together like watercolors. And Clementine knows that if she lets her heart fall, she’ll be doomed.

After all, love is never a matter of time—but a matter of timing.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

The Seven Year Slip is a perfect romance for fans of a little time jumping and unique concepts. The intrigue and tension between these two timelines was amazing. You keep wondering, how can they work out? And then it turns into how can they broach this distance? Additionally The Seven Year Slip is a story about grief, our passion for life and being true to ourselves, and love. I could identify with Clementine and how she’s using work as a shield to her grief, to her sense of listlessness, and fears.

The Seven Year Slip is full of chemistry, memories, and hope. It’s a reminder about the things we are called to do, our love and passions, and the ways we can never give up on our dreams. There were some stunning twists I did not see coming! It’s a perfect blend of timey wimey tension with romance. The Seven Year Slip is one of those books I stayed up late to finish. It is about knowing that we can always change, that there are pieces of ourselves which haunt and motivate us. Find The Seven Year Slip on Goodreads, Storygraph, Amazon, Bookshop.org, & Blackwells.
