Review: Pardon My Frenchie by Farrah Rochon

Okay, so I don’t have a dog. Nor do I want one. But will I gladly drop everything to read a book about someone who loves their dog and runs a dog boarding business? Yes. Pardon My Frenchie was a delight from start to finish. Keep reading this book review of Pardon My Frenchie for my full thoughts.

Summary

Ashanti Wright is ecstatic over the success of her dog boarding business, Barkingham Palace. In fact, it has become so successful that Ashanti has plans to expand her empire with a doggie bake shop. There’s just one problem, the building she’s had her eye on has just been sold to the surly grandson of one of her favorite customers.

Thaddeus Sims is not a dog person. He’s barely a person’s person. But when his grandmother is transferred to a senior living facility that doesn’t accept pets, the former army officer agrees to care for her annoying Standard Poodle, Puddin’. After all, it was with his grandmother’s help that Thad was able to buy the building that will soon house The PX, a sports bar/all-around hangout space for former servicemen that he plans to open.

Puddin’ and Ashanti’s French Bulldog, Duchess, have become a bit of a sensation on Barkingham Palace’s livestream because of their budding romance. When a video of the dogs sharing a doggy treat Lady and the Tramp-style goes viral, their owners are sucked into a media frenzy that captures the nation by storm…and creates some sparks for their owners too.

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

The premise alone hooked me. Pardon My Frenchie was supremely cute from the first page to the ending. Typically I loved Ashanti. I adored not only her ambition, but also her family. How she’s fought so hard for her sisters and the necessity for her to give herself a break. As a serial over planner and over worker, Ashanti was always going to be my favorite. Life can throw curve balls at us. But it’s about how we handle these waves and ripples.

She’s trying so hard to be there for everyone. So who’s there for her? And Thaddeus’s POV was another element I loved. His treatment of Puddin’ would probably be closest to who I’d be in Pardon My Frenchie. And I loved that they both spent some true time dismantling the misconceptions they had of each other. To see to the essence of who they are and to be there through it all. To talk through their fears and reservations.

Pardon My Frenchie was an unexpected delight for this cat person. But if you love heartfelt romance stories about characters who need to take care of themselves, who need to open their heart, this is for you.
