Review: Master of Iron by Tricia Levenseller

Having been so surprised with how much I loved Blade of Secrets, I knew I had to read Master of Iron. And this action packed sequel delivered. If you loved the first, you have to read the sequel! Keep reading this book review for my full thoughts.

Summary

Eighteen-year-old Ziva may have defeated a deadly warlord, but the price was almost too much. Ziva is forced into a breakneck race to a nearby city with the handsome mercenary, Kellyn, and the young scholar, Petrik, to find a powerful magical healer who can save her sister’s life.

When the events that follow lead to Ziva and Kellyn’s capture by an ambitious prince, Ziva is forced into the very situation she’s been dreading: magicking dangerous weapons meant for world domination.

The forge has always been Ziva’s safe space, a place to avoid society and the anxiety it causes her, but now it is her prison, and she’s not sure just how much of herself she’ll have to sacrifice to save Kellyn and take center stage in the very war she’s been trying to stop.

Review

TW: mentions of past panic attacks

What I loved about Master of Iron is how well rounded it feels. The action and adventure propels you through the story. I ended up finishing this book days before I thought I would. Mostly because I couldn’t stop reading, I needed to find out how Ziva and her story would end. And that brings to mind the other elements I loved – the characters. The character journey’s that each of them have gone through? Adored it.

For Ziva she has to figure out how to see her own capabilities. To recognize her own power and potential for good. And for the side characters, like my fave, Petrik, he has to show people that his intelligence and book smart is valuable. That theme is one I loved as it only grows in importance. But for Ziva, I loved to see her come into her own. To realize that her talents can be used for others uses and real good.

Master of Iron is action packed from the beginning. The pacing and adventure makes the pages fly by and it feels quick and captivating. They have to work through the past and the mistake they’ve made while also looking towards the future. We can become so afraid of what we love, but it’s up to us to reclaim it. Master of Iron feels epic all with a steady heart of characters. Find Master of Iron on Goodreads, Amazon, Indiebound, Bookshop.org & The Book Depository.
