After Lovelight Farms, I knew I had to keep reading B.K. Borison books. And while I’ve failed to keep up with that series, I saw this radio host book and jumped. And I’m totally in love. Keep reading this book review of First-Time Caller for my full thoughts.
Summary
Aiden Valentine has a secret: he’s fallen out of love with love. And as the host of Baltimore’s romance hotline, that’s a bit of a problem. But when a young girl calls in to the station asking for dating advice for her mom, the interview goes viral, thrusting Aiden and Heartstrings into the limelight.
Lucie Stone thought she was doing just fine. She has a good job; an incredible family; and a smart, slightly devious kid. But when all of Baltimore is suddenly scrutinizing her love life-or lack thereof—she begins to question if she’s as happy as she thought. Maybe a little more romance wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
Everyone wants Lucie to find her happy ending… even the handsome, temperamental man calling the shots. But when sparks start to fly behind the scenes, Lucie must make the final call between the radio-sponsored happily ever after or the man in the headphones next to her.

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)
First-Time Caller is perfect for fans of Sleepless in Seattle. If you are familiar with the movie, you can see similar emotional beats. I was instantly hooked. The beginning premise is iconic and Borison absolutely does it justice. Borison is an expect at character work and Lucie and Aiden jump off the page. I loved everyone from them to the side characters, the found family we create, and the family we wish we could talk to. First-Time Caller is like a reality check for both Aiden and Lucie. For Lucie who realizes that maybe she has been hiding from pursuing what she truly wants. And for Aiden who has to realize that he’s worth loving.

First-Time Caller is a display of Borison craft. There’s the banter we know and love. It’s full of characters who scream voice, are unique as heck, and tender-hearted. We have plenty of forced proximity – they’re in a recording booth! – and there’s PLENTY of angsty yearning. It’s also full of the “I’ll find you a date even though I want to date you” energy. All in all, First-Time Caller is a book I dove head first into and is my favorite Borison book! Find First-Time Caller on Goodreads, Storygraph, Amazon, Bookshop.org, Blackwells, & Libro. fm.
