Review: Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan

This has to be my favorite Kennedy Ryan. I know I’m new to Ryan’s books, but Before I Let Go made me cry multiple times! There’s something about second chance romance and married/divorced couples that gets me. Keep reading this book review of Before I Let Go for my full thoughts.

Summary

It couldn’t save their marriage.

Yasmen wasn’t prepared for how her life fell apart, but she is finally starting to find joy again. She and Josiah have found a new rhythm, co-parenting their two kids and running a thriving business together. Yet like magnets, they’re always drawn back to each other, and now they’re beginning to wonder if they’re truly ready to let go of everything they once had.

Soon, one stolen kiss leads to another…and then more. It’s hot. It’s illicit. It’s all good—until old wounds reopen. Is it too late for them to find forever? Or could they even be better, the second time around?

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

Before I Let Go was like catnip. I am always here for a good second chance romance. And Before I Let Go does it so well. Ryan not only transports us to the past with flashbacks which establish the cracks forming, but also Ryan commits to exploring the differences in Yasmen and Josiah now. There’s this gap of space and time between them, between who they were when they made promises, when they fell apart, and now. Being dual POV is an excellent choice to see the fronts they put up and the truths they cannot deny.

For fans of wondering how it ended, and how we can put it back together, Before I Let Go is the one! It’s realizing we lost sight of ourselves, that the ways we process differently introduced silences, and how staying together requires listening and growing together. About making space for who we are in that moment and not holding onto the past versions of ourselves. It’s full of missteps, blunders, give and take. One thing I really appreciated in Before I Let Go are the conversations about therapy and these issues we are hanging on to. That everyone needs help even when they’re doing well.

For heart wrenching and heart putting back together, read Before I Let Go. We love at our best and our worst and every moment in between. Find Before I Let Go on Goodreads, Storygraph, Amazon, Bookshop.org, Blackwells, & Libro. fm.
